About the Dietitian

Alkisti Photiou is a Clinical and Sports Dietitian (RD, SENr). She studied Dietetics and Human nutrition (BSc Hons) in the United Kingdom (UK) followed by her postgraduate studies (MSc) in Applied Sports Nutrition and Exercise in the UK.

She later practiced as an acute dietitian at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in gastroenterology and hepatology. Alkisti received training on the FODMAP diet for irritable
bowel syndrome from Monash University.

She actively participates in and keeps abreast of the latest developments and trends in the field and attends international conferences.

Her current practice involves the dietetic management of clinical cases involving Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Coeliac Disease, Eosinophilic Oesophagitis, gastrostomies, acid reflux, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), liver cirrhosis, fatty liver, pancreatitis, bile-acid malabsorption, and other functional gastrointestinal disorders. She is particularly interested in the field of Neurogastroenterology.

As a student dietitian, she trained at NHS England at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in the Oncology Department, Heartland Hospital in Birmingham in the General Medicine and Gastroenterology Department, and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham in the Head and Neck and Oncology & Hematology departments.

She is also the head of nutrition and cancer prevention at the Cancer Prevention Research Group in Greece (CPRGG), where she writes research articles in the field of nutrition and cancer prevention.

In the field of sports nutrition, she is trained as a level 1 anthropometrist by the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK) and is a certified advisor for Clean Sport by the UK Anti-Doping Agency. In her current practice she works with child and adult athletes to enhance their performance, facilitate recovery and help them achieve their goals as well as any individual who enjoys sports and exercise.

She is a Registered Dietitian (RD) under the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK, a clinical dietitian (RD) under CyRBFSTD in Cyprus, and a sports and exercise nutritionist under the Sports and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr) in the UK. She is a member of the Cyprus Dietitians and Nutritionists Association (CyDNA) as well as a member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) in the UK.
